2016 Wings Over Wall Street - October 27, 2016
AFA Members, Toni Diamond and Warren Schiffer, became founders of the extraordinary benefit, "Wings Over Wall Street" when Toni was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. They turned their greatest challenge into inspiring work to fight ALS through research funded by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In 2004 we lost Toni, our flying partner, but her care-giver husband, Warren, continues to work in her memory.
This year the benefit is scheduled for October 27, 2016 from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm at The Lighthouse, Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers in New York City.
A Note from Warren
To my fellow Flight Attendants,
As we embark on unifying our ranks and standing together as one group with shared aspirations for a professional, prosperous, and safety oriented future, I am really excited to see how great our combined efforts can positively impact our careers going forward.
Standing together as one, with passion and commitment, is what Wings has been focused on. I am humbled and so proud to have the opportunity to tell you about the upcoming 16 Annual MDA'S Wings Over Wall Street Gala event, which takes place October 27th, 2016 at The Lighthouse - Pier Sixty-One - Chelsea Piers in NYC.
This year, our goal is to Unlock the Cure for ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Why am I involved with ALS? For those who don’t know, my late wife, and United Flight Attendant, Toni Diamond, was diagnosed and later died from this horrible disease. She and I cofounded MDA'S Wings Over Wall Street in 2001 as a way to fund ALS research, which still remains underfunded today. Over the last 15 years, with the support of our United family, Wings has raised almost $11 million for ALS research.
Frankly, I never thought that 16 years later I would need to come back to you asking for help. The reality is that people are still dying every day from ALS, and, while significant progress has been made, we still have more work to do to Unlock The Cure for ALS. I am confident that with your support, we will achieve Toni’s dream of a world without ALS. She knew that she wouldn’t be around to see it, but that she could count on me to continue her fight after she was gone. I knew that her fellow Flight Attendants wouldn’t let her down either.

Finally, if you are going to be in NY on 10/27, but are unable to purchase a ticket, I invite you to become a Wings volunteer for the night. You'll need to be available from approximately 4 PM - 10 PM. It would be greatly appreciated and I know you'll have a great night. Please contact Alyssa Keenan akeenan@mdausa.org.
Thank you for considering this request, and fly safely.
Gratefully yours,
Warren Schiffer, EWRSW
