Wings Mourns the Loss of Norma Steck-Hess: 2002 Michael P. Beier Award Recipient

Last week, the Wings Family lost another person with ALS, whose spirit, courage, and grace made our lives much richer. Norma Steck-Hess, the Wings 2002 Michael P. Beier Award Recipient, passed away after an extended battle against ALS that spanned over 16 years. She worked hard to support ALS organizations, in addition to Wings, and was a fixture for many years on the Ride For Life. Norma cared about people, was curious about so many things, and always had a smile for everyone. She will be missed, but her fight against ALS will continue with her memory driving all of us at Wings towards a cure. We send our sincerest condolences to Norma's family and friends.

Wings Mourns the Loss of One of Our Own; Ken Heath

The Wings Family mourns the loss of a dear friend and a dedicated, passionate, and vital part of our organization.  Ken has been a humble driving force behind the success of our efforts.  His commitment to fighting ALS never waivered, even as his own health became compromised.  While he will be sorely missed, his smile, passion, generosity, selflessness and love are treasures that all who knew him get to keep.  Please visit this link to view Ken's obituary in the Stamford Advocate.

From all of us at Wings, we send our love and condolences to the Heath family during this very difficult time.

Kenneth W. Heath, July 5, 1940 - November 4, 2014

ALS is a progressive motor neuron disease that causes weakness and muscle wasting and can lead to complete paralysis with an average three-to-five year survival rate. Founded by those with ALS and their friends and families, MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street benefit is a special annual fundraiser for the Wall Street and financial communities and has put over $10 million in the hand of ALS researchers since its inception in 2001.

MDA is the world leader in the fight against ALS, dedicating $325 million to ALS research and health care services in the past six decades. The Association currently is funding 50 ALS research projects at a cost of more than $15 million. MDA’s ALS Division mission is to find treatments and cures. This means not only funding excellent basic research, but also capitalizing on this pipeline with programs targeted to each phase of research required to move promising projects out of the labs and into the clinic.

Funds have been invested into the most advanced research in the field. MDA’s ALS Division, The Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA /ALS Center at Columbia University and The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins University continue to make major strides in the pursuit of a breakthrough as a direct result of the support of MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street®.
